Guest post: Casey Sheridan and the Invisible Bandit

Thanks, Elizabeth, for allowing me to take over your blog today. I promise to pick up my candy wrappers before I leave. J

The Power of Invisibility

The sound of footsteps on the sidewalk below followed by a soft feminine giggle caught her attention. She wasn’t ready to be seen yet, so she disappeared, instantly turning invisible, to watch the couple as they walked past her building and around a corner. – From Sirus Bandai—The Invisible Bandit by Casey Sheridan

My character, Sirus Bandai has the power to turn invisible, and, as you can see, she uses that power to her benefit.
I’ve often thought it would be a lot of fun to turn invisible. You could walk around naked and not get arrested! :) The possibilities are endless.
It would be great fun to be invisible and yank the pants down on a police officer. He’d never know what hit him! LOL!
Tell me....what would you do if you could turn invisible for one day?
xoxo,
Casey Sheridan

When Stephanie and Jenny go to a Murder Mystery Halloween weekend at Wilderhope Manor, they’re expecting fun and games. But following creaky floorboards, spooky noises and an alarming encounter in the Manor’s grounds, the girls begin to wonder if there’s more to Wilderhope Manor than meets the eye. As they find frequent comfort in one another’s arms – and their bed – will the girls discover what’s causing the bumps in the night, or will they run scared?

Read an excerpt.....
The car trundled up the long driveway, the crunching of gravel beneath tyres the only sound as Stephanie and her girlfriend, Jenny, peered out of the windows at their surroundings.
Even at dusk the tree-lined driveway was impressive with perfectly maintained parkland, spanning for acres on either side of it. As Stephanie steered the Fiesta around a bend in the track, they both gasped. Their destination, Wilderhope Manor, had come into view and it was stunning. The Tudor style property was huge, with no less than three frontages visible from where they were. Chimneys with intricately built patterns jutted into the darkening sky, with tangles of ivy climbing parts of the manor, giving the place an appearance that was both beautiful and foreboding.
Presently, the driveway opened out into a gravelled area, which as far as Stephanie could tell, doubled as a car park for the weekend. Stephanie manoeuvred into a spot between two vehicles and killed the engine. As she turned to Jenny, she jumped, startled. Her girlfriend had leaned in close, making a scary face with her hands mimicking claws.
“Are you ready to be scared out of your wits, young lady?” Jenny rasped, wiggling her eyebrows and fingers theatrically.
Stephanie shoved her playfully, laughing. “Come on, you silly cow. It’s a murder mystery weekend, not a monster hunt. There will be no ghosts, ghouls or vampires involved.”
Stephanie got out of the car and closed the door. She’d already popped open the boot and started unloading their bags before Jenny appeared alongside her, pouting petulantly.
“But it’s Halloween tomorrow,” Jenny insisted. “Anything could happen. The veil between the living and dead will be at its thinnest, and this place is meant to be swarming with ghosts.”
“If you say so, sweetheart,” she replied, rolling her eyes. She was used to Jenny’s crazy beliefs by now. “Grab your bags and let’s get inside. It’s cold. You got the tickets?”
Jenny nodded, brandishing her handbag in response. Jenny picked up her overnight bag as Stephanie slammed the boot lid before locking the car, then followed her toward the grand entrance to Wilderhope Manor.
* * *
A little while later, they were installed in their room. They’d each been handed a “Welcome Pack” by the staff member who had attended to them at Reception, which consisted of their itinerary and instructions for the weekend.
As they unpacked, she voiced one of the thoughts that had run through her head. “Have you ever noticed how places never bat an eye at two girls sharing a room, and yet, if it’s two guys, they automatically assume they’re gay?”
“They’ll soon change their tune when they see your outfit for tonight!” Jenny replied, grinning cheekily at her. “It screams ‘lesbian’ with every stitch!”
“Whatever do you mean, you saucy wench? Someone with girl parts dressing as a distinguished gentleman does not a lesbian make.”
“True, but I wonder what it’ll do to you? Perhaps it’ll work in reverse and turn you straight!”

Blog Tour: Darkest Kiss, Darkest Bliss by Azura Ice

I'm delighted to host a blog tour from Azura Ice.....

Gossip

It goes by many synonyms or expressions: airing one’s dirty laundry, the clothesline, slander, heard it through the grapevine, flapping h/her gums, and many others.

Ever deal with gossip? I’m sure you have; most of us do. Whether you’ve dealt with it in high school, in your neighborhood or even in a tiny town where everyone knows one another on a first-name basis, there’s always one person who starts running their chops about someone else. Back in the 1800s, if someone started a rumor, the person the rumor was about usually had to leave town. At that time, there was a verbal code of honor—a person’s word. People back then didn’t spread rumors unless he or she wanted to get rid of a person or even a family. During that era, a person’s word was honorable. However, if it turned out that the rumor starter was caught in a lie, they could never hold their head up among their neighbors again.

Deirdre, Darkest Kiss, Darkest Bliss’s heroine, deals with many problems. One such dilemma is the talk about her grandmother and, in the end, Deirdre, too. Was her grandma a witch, and if so, did she practice black or white magic? Is Deirdre’s husband running game and does Deirdre know about it? The rumors escalate and it all comes to an explosive head that rocks the town.

Deirdre can deal with the gossip, but what she can’t handle is having her love thrown back in her face. Once she discovers some of her mamaw’s magic, she uses it to not only settle a score but she inadvertently releases another man who will love her forever. And that man was the victim of gossip, too.

Hmm, maybe in every bad thing there’s some good, too. Why don’t you decide for yourself and read Deirdre’s story?
*****
Deirdre loves Malachi, but the warning about his wandering heart has come true.

Shoved into a situation that tears Deirdre apart, she prays her suspicions about her husband are wrong. Glimpses of a powerful, handsome black man tantalize her, and his deep voice comes to her at unexpected times. Who is this stranger and how does he seem to always know when she needs him? The more Malachi follows his wandering heart, the more Deirdre finds herself drawn to her ghostly companion.

Soon it’s clear her husband has no intention of rectifying his playboy ways, so Deirdre turns to her grandmother’s book of Voodoo and faerie magic for help. Can she summon the power to keep Malachi with her…or will true love and magic from long ago release a new and powerful love?

Sexy stories: Fiction that turns me on

I’m shortly launching a guest post series on my blog where I invite writers and editors to talk about their favourite erotic story, exploring what it is about their choice that turns them on. Is it the writing style, the language, the subject matter, characters, plot, descriptions -  or some mysterious quality that is hard to define?

If any writers are interested in contributing to this, do get in touch. There will be some great guest posts coming up by prominent writers to look forward to.

Crimson Kisses e-book cover design awards

I'm delighted that the cover design for Crimson Kisses is featured on the e-book cover design awards on The Book Designer for September.  There were 86 entered in the fiction category, so stiff competition.

Check it out - a great showcase, interesting stuff and some wonderful designs.  I still love our cover and strongly recommend any indie publisher to use a professional designer for their book.  If you want to contact my designer, Klaus, let me know.

My Pleasure.....

When self-employed graphic designer Anna Vincent meets her new accountant to discuss her disorganised book-keeping, she is also introduced to his collection of antique whips.  I’ll say no more, as I'm sure your imagination will fill in the gaps if you are of a kinky persuasion (and I love kinky!).  Except to give you a little excerpt from the story My Pleasureone of the tales in my collection Kissing Velvet.

By the time they had reached six strokes, Anna’s flesh was a criss-cross of thin red stripes that stung unbearably.
“Perhaps one more for luck,” he suggested playfully, running a finger in the hot valley of her shapely bottom and down between her thighs, where he paused.
“Interesting” he commented, “Surprisingly wet.”

Walking the Talk 2: Goddess Star Monroe

I have always admired driven and determined women.  And there are few women as driven and determined as Goddess Star Monroe.  By her example she shows you what CAN be done – if you work hard enough and stay focussed.

I first met Star well over ten years ago.  She taught Pilates and is a great teacher.  I attended her Kent classes for many years, so when she added pole dance tuition to her portfolio I couldn’t wait to join.  I had previously taken part in a one-off pole dance workshop in London, was the oldest person there by a long way and came away with my confidence shattered.  By contrast, when I took structured classes and some one-to-one tuition with Star, within a few years not only was I achieving moves on the pole I would never have imagined possible for me, I was also teaching assistant for some of Star’s beginner groups, and, eventually, became part of her team as a fully-fledged tutor running my own classes.  My body was the best it ever has been, I felt sexy as hell, my self-esteem was climbing and this had a knock-on effect throughout my everyday life.  It influenced my writing and played a significant part in my subsequent personal relationships, and I sometimes wonder if I would be where I am now if I hadn’t met Star.

We are inspired by dynamic people and what they achieve because they show is what is possible.  Star is powerful, vibrant, glamorous with a capital G, a hugely successful role model for women.  As Director of the Academy of Womanly Arts, it is no surprise that she is in demand as a speaker and woman’s empowerment expert. Passionate about transforming women’s lives on a global scale, Star has been a vital catalyst in mine.  I’m convinced she will conquer the world. I hope so.

Talking about erotica

I have just spent a lovely afternoon with lots of other writers talking about our passion – writing!  I was invited to a writers group to give a talk about how and why I write erotica, as well as offering advice on getting published – especially e-publishing.  I had some great feedback from my audience and thoroughly enjoyed the process.  I realise I’m much more comfortable speaking about writing than I am actually reading my stories aloud, probably because I get a lot of pleasure sharing my experiences with others.  I wonder if that is common with other writers?  Maybe talking about the process is easier than showcasing the end product?

One Night Stand

One Night Stand, is one of my favourite stories in my collection Kissing Velvet.  I got hot writing it and still do when I read it, even now. I did have a man in mind when I wrote the character of Phil, who, on the surface, is one of the good guys.  Too nice, even.  But Helen soon learns that she really shouldn’t have taken Phil for granted.

My head was spinning.  Too much alcohol I told myself.  I must have misunderstood.  Phil is a friend, a mate.  A good, solid, reliable bloke. He couldn’t possibly be suggesting this.
“Let me get this right,” I said slowly.  “You’re saying that if I spend the night with you you’ll pay me ten grand, right?”
“Right.”
“Would you want sex?”
“That would be part of the bargain.”
“So I would be a very expensive prostitute.”
“I don't want a hooker,” he said quietly.  “I want you. Just for the night.  I have this fantasy.  You would be completely at my mercy.”

And so begins a night of exquisite BDSM that Helen will never forget…and which she can’t wait to repeat.

Starting at my ankles, he attached the rope to the bedpost at the foot of the bed, fastening me with a series of loops and knots before moving on to my wrists.   He was methodical, fastidious, pausing to check that the knots were secure before proceeding, admiring his handiwork. Finally, when he was satisfied, he stood back and just looked at me for a while, contemplating my naked spread-eagled form….

Fanny Fiction

Yesterday, I was chatting to a friend about 50 Shades of Grey and I mentioned that it originated from fan fiction.  She misheard and thought I said Fanny Fiction.

The media do love their labels and with the recent surge in the erotica genres, have come up with terms like Posh Porn (awful) and Mummy Porn (hideous expression).  I rather like the term Fanny Fiction.  Fun and unpretentious.  What do you think?

A question for readers

Today's post is simply a question, which has arisen from recent conversations with fellow writers.  Does a compulsive story and great characters transcend bad writing and poor execution?

Just asking......

The Right Fit?

Kara thought that the scene before her was far more interesting than the porn film and as the woman with the spiky collar stood behind her and began to caress her breasts, Kara felt herself becoming aroused.   A man with his back to her, in a black rubber tee shirt, naked from the waist down, was thrusting in and out of an abandoned female who was grunting in ecstasy.  Another woman with honey blonde hair had her tongue up his arse.  Realising that they were being watched, the blonde woman withdrew her tongue and turned to face Kara.  She was smiling, saliva dripping down her chin.  “Care to join us?” she asked, parting her lips….

The Right Fit, one of the tales in my collection Kissing Velvet, was partly inspired by people I had met and parties attended.  It was also asking the question, is there such a thing as the perfect partner? Can you have everything? Kara is disappointed in love and, after a string of disastrous relationships, vows to have nothing more to do with men.  Unless the right one comes along, of course, one who fits her perfectly in every way. Then she encounters Dick…..and learns that three doesn’t have to be a crowd……

Erratic erotica

Last night I was part of another sell-out Wanton Words and  Burlesque Bombshells Show at the lovely Tom Thumb Theatre.  I read two of my erotic short stories from Xcite anthologies - After the Funeral and Road Rage.  I always get really nervous beforehand, and sometimes I can overcome this when I start reading, sometimes not so much.  Reading your own work is so different to writing it!  I'm now busy selecting what to read at the next event in the Canterbury Fringe Festival on October 18th.

Anyway, I enjoyed chatting to two lovely ladies from the audience afterwards who asked if my blog was erotic.  I replied that I hoped it was, but that it was a bit erratic at times.  This amused them and one coined the phrase "erratic erotica".  I love that.  Erratica!  A new word is born.

Guest Post: An Executive Decision by Grace Marshall

Delighted to host a fabulous guest post from Grace Marsh about her new book. Love the cover design!

Exciting New Release:
An Executive Decision by Grace Marshall
A hot romance novel - first in a series of three.

Overworked CEO Ellison Thorne has no time for sex, let alone romance. The only answer, at least where his retiring business partner Beverly is concerned, is a no-strings sex clause in her replacement’s contract, designed to make Ellis’ busy life easier – and hotter. But she’s joking, right?

When Dee Henning takes over Beverly’s job, sparks fly between her and Ellis, but work takes priority in driven Dee’s life too. Can one night of passion in a Paris hotel room prove Beverly’s Sex Clause is their secret to success in the boardroom and the bedroom, and what will happen if that private clause becomes public knowledge?

Naked pole dancing and tenacity

Last Q and A for a while, unless I get any more requests.   We’re doing personal stuff again today, but that’s cool.
Q. What do you think is your best attribute?
A: Tenacity.
Q. What three words would your friends use to describe you?
A: Compassionate, loyal but always late
Q. Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
A: I used to pole dance naked at a naturist club – great fun!

Wednesday 3 October 2012

Salt baths and Japanese cherry blossom tea

Following on from a previous post, today’s Q and A is a bit more personal, but what makes us tick also informs what and how we write.
Q. How do you like to relax when you’re not working?
A: My favourite way to relax? A long soak in a hot sea salt bath followed by Japanese cherry blossom green tea served in a white china cup.  Lovely!  Although I usually fall asleep in the bath.
Q. What makes you laugh when you watch TV?
A: The Big Bang Theory. It’s brilliant on every level; the characters, the acting, the writing, the attention to detail.  I also love Miranda. Such fun!
Q. What makes you angry?
A: Bullies in any form, whether individuals or corporations - especially dangerous drivers.  When I’m angry I swear a lot.  Not very pretty but it stops me punching someone!

K D Grace believes Freud was right. In the end, it really IS all about sex, well sex and love. And nobody’s happier about that than she, cuz otherwise, what would she write about?
When she’s not writing, K D is veg gardening or walking. She walks her stories, and she’s serious about it. She and her husband recently walked the Coast to Coast route across England. For her, inspiration is directly proportionate to how quickly she wears out a pair of walking boots.
K D has erotica published with Xcite Books, Mammoth, Cleis Press, Black Lace, Erotic Review, Ravenous Romance, Scarlet Magazine, Sweetmeats Press and others.
K D’s critically acclaimed erotic romance novels include, The Initiation of Ms Holly, The Pet Shop, and her paranormal erotic novel, Body Temperature and Rising, the first book of her Lakeland Heatwave trilogy, was listed as honorable mention on Violet Blue’s Top 12 Sex Books for 2011.

Erotic ranking

Interesting to see that of my 3 recently and simultaneously published titles, there is a clear “leader” in terms of popularity.  The ranking is as follows:
Second Helpings
Love Bites
Crimson Kisses
I wonder why.  Is it the cover designs?  I’m convinced they play a major part.  I love the designs that Klaus did for me.
Or maybe it’s down to the subjects in the stories.  Second Helpings is mainly vanilla but more romantic, with plenty of twists.  And romantic erotica is huge right now (thanks to FSOG).
Love Bites is quite quirky and humorous, and includes threesomes (FMM), and voyeurism.
Crimson Kisses is very different – it’s a kinky tale of paranormal lesbian romance, dark in tone and quite intense, as are the poems that follow, which chart an obsessive BDSM relationship.
So, something for everyone!
